In Somebody’s Hand

A tiny brown leaf
Sits high in a tree
Awaiting the winds
Oh, where could they be?

The other leaves fallen
Fell to the ground
For reasons unknown
It’s hanging around

A blue sky above it
Clouds passing by
Bugs never eat it
The question is, why

A tiny leaf waiting
For someone to see
For someone to help it
Help it be free

It cannot write email
Use a cell phone
No messaging center
Or a dial tone

Rain season coming
Its petals get wet
Maybe dislodge it
Anyone’s bet

Its lifetime is over
It’s no longer green
Replenished the air
For breathing and things

Hillsides its pillow
Its mattress the land
A ride now to freedom
In somebody’s hand
